Nifty Snaps 7-Day Losing Streak, Ends Above 8,100


Sharemasterindia.com 3:35 p.m.: The Sensex advanced 359 points to close at 26,840 and the Nifty closed above its crucial psychological level of 8,100 on the back of broad based buying. The Nifty snapped its seven-day losing streak by gaining 102 points to shut shop at 8,124.

Buying was visible across the sectors. Capital goods, technology, banking, oil & gas and auto stocks were among the top performers in trades today.

From the Nifty-50 basket of stocks, 42 stocks advanced while 8 stocks declined.

Bharat Forge Rebounds After Three Days of Fall

Sharemasterindia.com: Bharat Forge shares edged higher on Wednesday after falling for three straight sessions. The shares of the auto component maker have fallen 15 per cent in last three months on concerns of slowing order inflows from the United States.

Brokerages have said Bharat Forge has been facing a slowdown in auto component orders related to class 8 trucks (large-sized trucks which weigh over 15,000 kg) since last three months.

SPARC Surges 8% as it Licenses Xelpros to Sun Pharma


Sharemasterindia.com: Sun Pharma Advanced Reseasrch Company (SPARC) shares gained as much as 8 per cent to an intraday high of Rs 438.35 after the drug research firm said it has licensed out Xelpros to a subsidiary of Sun Pharma for the US market. Xelpros is a preservative-free eye drop used in the treatment glaucoma.
 
SPARC will get an upfront payment of $3 million and other milestone payments totalling $16 million from Sun Pharma under the licence agreement.

PVR Shares Jump 5% on DT Cinemas Acquisition

 Sharemasterindia.com: PVR shares jumped over 5 per cent on Wednesday following the multiplex chain's announcement yesterday that it will acquire DLF's multiplex subsidiary DT Cinemas for Rs 500 crore. PVR and DLF had been negotiating the deal for quite some time, according to reports.

DT Cinemas operates 29 screens with approximately 6,000 seats across 8 properties in the National Capital Region and Chandigarh. PVR, India's biggest multiplex chain, has 467 screens across 105 locations in 43 cities.

Sharemasterindia 9:20 a.m.: The markets have opened on a positive note in trades on Wednesday on the back of buying visible across the sectors. The Sensex jumped 239 points to 26,720 and the 50-share Nifty was trading close to its psychological level of 8,100.

Buying was visible across the sectors. Realty, banking, power, capital goods and pharma stocks were among the top performers in the morning deals.
