Live: Sensex Gains Over 300 Points Led by RIL, HDFC Bank

3:12 p.m.: The BSE Sensex and Nifty rose more than 1 per cent on Thursday, heading for their highest close in nearly 2-1/2 weeks, led by a surge in index heavyweight Reliance Industries for a fifth day, on optimism the company would begin 4G phone services in December.

"Seems like bulls are trying to put a bottom in place. The herd mentality of being underweight on India is at its peak," G. Chokkalingam, founder of Equinomics, a Mumbai-based research and fund advisory firm told Reuters.

Sun Pharma Gives Marching Orders to 18 Top-Ranking Officers: Report


Sharemasterindia.com: Sun Pharma, India's largest drugmaker by sales, has reportedly asked 18 of its top executives to leave the company. The high-ranking executives earlier worked with Ranbaxy Labs, the company Sun Pharma acquired from Japan's Daiichi Sankyo in April 2014.

According to media reports, Indrajit Banerjee, president and CFO of Ranbaxy and Yugal Sikri, country head (India) Ranbaxy are among those that have been asked to resign from the company. All 18 executives have been given a severance package, the reports said.

Eicher Motors, Polaris Industries Launch Utility Vehicle, Shares Gain

 Sharemasterindia.com: Eicher Motors, Polaris Industries together have rolled out the first vehicle called Multix from their joint venture called Eicher Polaris. Multix is a 5-seater PUV or personal utility vehicle, priced at Rs 2.32 lakh (ex-showroom Jaipur).

The Eicher Motors stock on Thursday rose over 2 per cent to Rs 19,688. At 1:14 pm it was trading over 1 per cent at Rs 19,525, outperforming the broader Nifty and the Sensex.

Jaitley Rings Closing Bell at New York Stock Exchange

 New York(Sharemasterindia.com): Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley rang the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) here and also toured the trading floor of the world's largest stock exchange.

Mr Jaitley, who began his 10-day trip to the US on Wednesday, was accompanied by a high-level business delegation from India that included Ambuja Neotia Group Chairman Harshavardhan Neotia, Apollo Tyres Chairman Onkar Kanwar, Bharti Enterprises Vice Chairman and Managing Director Rajan Bharti Mittal and Bharat Hotels Chairperson and Managing Director Jyotsna Suri.

Mr Jaitley rang the customary closing bell at the NYSE at the close of trading day at 4 PM.

Bharti Airtel Falls After African Tower Sale Deal Called Off

 Sharemasterindia.com: Shares of Bharti Airtel fell nearly 2 per cent in early trade on Thursday after a tower sale deal related to its African operations fell through.

Bharti Airtel on Wednesday said its agreement with Helios Towers Africa for sale of tower assets in Tanzania and Tchad has been terminated. Bharti on July 9 last year signed a deal with Helios Towers Africa (HTA) to divest approximately 3,100 towers. Airtel was supposed to have access to these towers under a long-term lease contract.

Asia Stocks Up, Dollar Sags after Dovish Signals from Fed

 Tokyo(Sharemasterindia.com): Asian equities rose early on Thursday after the Federal Reserve sounded more dovish than many had expected and led investors to push back their expected timing of a rate hike, while the dollar was put on the defensive on the same token.

MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan climbed 0.3 per cent. South Korea's Kospi rose 0.7 per cent, while Japan's Nikkei dipped 0.1 per cent on the yen's gains against the dollar.

Wall Street shares inched higher in a choppy session overnight following the Fed's statements, with the Dow rising 0.17 per cent and S&P gaining 0.2 per cent.

Live: Sensex Jumps Over 200 Points, Regains 27,000


Sharemasterindia.com 9:20 a.m.: Sensex advanced over 200 points to move above 27,000 and the Nifty surged to high of 8,142 on the back of broad-based buying.

Buying was visible across the sectors. Banking, oil & gas, realty, capital goods, pharma and IT indices were up 0.5-0.8 per cent each.

From the Nifty-50 basket of stocks, the advancing stocks outnumbered the declining stocks as 42 stocks advanced while 8 stocks were losing.
