New Delhi(Sharemasterindia.com): State-owned banks have made a "strong case" for higher capital infusion by the government, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said on Friday, adding he saw a merit in the demand.

"This is a strong case that the banks have made and therefore, I do believe that it's a case which merits the government seriously looking into it," Mr Jaitley told a news conference after a meeting with bankers.

Sharemasterindia.com: Indigo has now launched a flash sale with airfares starting at Rs 1727. The IndiGo offer is valid till Saturday, June 13.

The travel period for the IndiGo offer is between July 1, 2015 and September 30, 2015.

This offer is the latest in a slew of offers that airlines have been offering customers, in a bid to fight for market share in a very competitive market.

Government's Push to Offer Banking for All Stumbles on Empty Accounts

 
Mumbai/New Delhi(Sharemasterindia.com): More than half of a record 160 million accounts opened in India as part of a drive to offer banking to all are still empty, illustrating the massive task ahead for one of the government's most high-profile campaigns and the strain on banks.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scheme last August to end 'financial untouchability', an ambitious project to enable tens of millions to have access to a bank. The scheme offers free insurance and even an overdraft facility and aims to eventually help deliver all subsidies and other social benefits to the poor directly.

But while millions signed up - the volume of accounts made a Guinness World Record and PM Modi hit his target - 53 per cent of these accounts have never been used as of June 3, records show.

ABG Shipyard Surges 12% on Stake Sale Reports

 Sharemasterindia.com: ABG Shipyard shares surged nearly 12 per cent to hit intraday high of Rs 186.70 after the company clarified that it is in talks with Germany based Privinvest to sell its stake.

ABG Shipyard clarified that  it received an expression of interest from Privinvest which owns shipyards such as Nobiskrug Gmbh, Germany, Hellenic Shipyards S. A. Greece, CMN, France, Adm Kiel Shipyards, Germany and Logistics International Sal Adm Shipyards, UAE.

Tata Motors Hits 52-Week Low as JLR May Sales Decline

 Sharemasterindia.com: Tata Motors shares fell as much as 2 per cent to hit 52-week low of Rs 421.45 after the company reported that sales of its subsidiary Jaguar-Land Rover (JLR) fell in the month of May.

Tata Motors said that retail sales of its luxury car brand Jaguar-Land Rover declined 2.1 per cent to 38,000 units in the month of May. Sales of Jaguar fell 13 per cent year on year while Land Rover sales were flat. Meanwhile, Land Rover's Evoque sales in China showed a slow ramp up.

Sharemasterindia.com 9:18 a.m.: The Sensex and Nifty have opened lower on the back of selling in auto, metal, banking and power stocks. The Sensex slipped 63 points to 26,307 and the Nifty fell 24 points to 7,940.

From the Nifty-50 basket of stocks, 33 stocks were declining while 17 were advancing.

9:00 a.m.: Rupee opens flat at 63.96/dollar against Thursday's close of 63.97.
