How Rakesh Jhunjhunwala's Namesake Took Surana Solar Shares for a Ride

Sharemasterindia.com: Surana Solar shares jumped as much as 17.4 per cent in early trade on Wednesday after data from the National Stock Exchange showed that Rakesh Jhunjhunwala had bought 2.56 lakh shares or 0.5 per cent stake in the Hyderabad-based company on Tuesday. NSE bulk data shows the name of the buyer/seller only, so as soon as Rakesh jhunjhunwala's name cropped up, there was a rush for Surana Solar shares. Traders, analysts and journalists assumed that the investment was done by Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, the billionaire investor widely followed by the investment community.Surana Solar management started getting calls from across the country as analysts sought more clarity about the little-known company.

The buying momentum in Surana Solar shares, however, came off post noon and the stock hit a lower circuit minutes before the scheduled stoppage of trade yesterday.

Cairn India, Vedanta Shares Trade Mixed As Merger Talks Grow Louder

Sharemasterindia.com: Shares of Cairn India and Vedanta Ltd traded mixed on Thursday as speculation about their merger grew louder. Reports citing sources said the boards of Cairn India and Vedanta Ltd are likely to meet on Sunday to consider merger of the cash-rich oil firm with the metal and mining company as billionaire Anil Agarwal looks to consolidate businesses and cut debt.

However, analysts said the institutional investors of the Cairn India could oppose the merger with Vedanta Ltd, on fears that the merger could adverse impact the cash-rich oil company.

Sharemasterindia.com 9:37 a.m.: After the recent correction in which the Nifty fell 5 per cent and the Sensex shed nearly 1,400 points, international brokerage UBS has come out with its list of top midcap picks.

9:25 a.m.: The Sensex jumped over 100 points to hit its important psychological level of 27,000 and the Nifty moved above 8,150 levels on the back of buying visible across the sectors.

Buying was visible across the board. Pharma, consumer durables, capital goods, banking and FMCG stocks were on the investors radar in the opening deals.
