Sensex Gains Over 150 Points, Nifty Ends Above 8,000

Sharemasterindia.com 3:40 p.m.: The markets ended today's trading session on a positive note. The Sensex jumped over 150 points and the Nifty closed above 8,000 on the back of buying in auto, pharma and oil & gas and IT stocks.

In the intraday deals, the Sensex touched high of 26,729 and low of 26,308 and the Nifty moved in a range of 113 points. The Sensex came off the intraday high levels as losses in banking, metal, power and consumer durable stocks capped gains.

Banking, metal and power stocks faced the heat of selling pressure. The Bank Nifty ended 0.4 per cent lower at 17,459 and the PSU Bank index fell 1.5 per cent.

Wholesale Inflation Falls to -2.36% in May

Sharemasterindia.com: Wholesale prices fell at a slower-than-expected annual rate of 2.36 per cent in May, their seventh straight fall, mainly on the back of plunging oil and manufacturing goods prices, government data showed on Monday.

The data compared with a 2.5 per cent year-on-year fall forecast by economists in a Reuters poll and a provisional 2.65 percent annual decline in April.

Gold Climbs as Greece Fails to Clinch Deal; Fed Meet in Focus

Bullion got some safe-have support from news over the weekend that talks on ending a deadlock between Greece and its international creditors broke up in failure on Sunday, with European leaders venting their frustration as Athens stumbled closer towards a debt default that threatens its future in the euro.

Cairn India, Vedanta Shares Rise After $2.3-Bn Deal

Mumbai(Sharemasterindia.com): Vedanta Ltd and Cairn India Ltd shares rose on Monday after Vedanta offered to buy out minorities in cash-rich oil unit Cairn India in a $2.3-billion (Rs 14,720 crore at 1 dollar = 64 rupees) deal.

Sharemasterindia.com 10:49 a.m.: The Sensex has jumped 147 points to 26,572 and Nifty advanced 36 points to 8,019 on the back of buying in blue-chip stocks such as HDFC, Larsen & Toubro, Reliance Industries and Sun Pharma.

10:20 a.m.: Sun TV Network shares jumped as much as 12 per cent to hit intraday high of Rs 321.60 after falling over 20 per cent since June 5 on concerns that the broadcast major may have to take off its 33 channels off air as the Ministry of Home Affairs has reportedly declined to give the company a security clearance.
10:10 a.m.: After surging over 150 points in the first hour of trade, the Sensex has come off the intraday high levels on the back of selling in banking and power stocks. The Sensex was up 57 points at 26,482 and the Nifty jumped 8 points to 7,991.
