HomeMarket Live: Sensex Jumps 150 Points; HDFC, L&T Lead


Sharemasterindia.com 10:49 a.m.: The Sensex has jumped 147 points to 26,572 and Nifty advanced 36 points to 8,019 on the back of buying in blue-chip stocks such as HDFC, Larsen & Toubro, Reliance Industries and Sun Pharma.

10:20 a.m.: Sun TV Network shares jumped as much as 12 per cent to hit intraday high of Rs 321.60 after falling over 20 per cent since June 5 on concerns that the broadcast major may have to take off its 33 channels off air as the Ministry of Home Affairs has reportedly declined to give the company a security clearance.
10:10 a.m.: After surging over 150 points in the first hour of trade, the Sensex has come off the intraday high levels on the back of selling in banking and power stocks. The Sensex was up 57 points at 26,482 and the Nifty jumped 8 points to 7,991.


9:55 a.m.: Shares in Cairn India as well as Vedanta Limited rose on Monday following the merger announcement between the two subsidiaries on Sunday. The deal will now have to be approved by regulators as well as by a majority of the companies' minority shareholders. Analysts told NDTV that the deal is a win-win for shareholders of both companies.  
9:54 a.m.: Nischal Maheshwari, co-head of research with Edelweiss Securities says that we are not out of the woods but it is good time to look at the markets.

9:47 a.m.: Markets gain on the back of broad-based buying; Sensex jumps 159 points to 26,584 and Nifty gains 41 points to 8,024.

9:42 a.m.: Sun TV Network shares jump 8.15 per cent to Rs 310.25 on heavy volumes as 3.23 lakh shares change hands in the morning deals on the BSE compared to average of 3.85 lakh shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

9:34 a.m.: Markets showcase a smart recovery; Sensex jumps 53 points to 26,478 and the Nifty up 11 points at 7,993 on the back of buying in capital goods and realty stocks.

9:29 a.m.: Prakash Diwan of Altamount Capital Management recommends accumulate on Maruti Suzuki and Bajaj Auto buy on dips.

9:25 a.m.: From the Nifty-50 basket of stocks, 34 stocks decline while 16 stocks advance.

Power Grid, NTPC, Hindalco, Bank of Baroda, TCS, Bajaj Auto, GAIL India, NMDC and Infosys were among the top losers.

On the other hand, Vedanta Ltd was the top gainer on the Nifty, up 1.3 per cent at Rs 186.25. Sun Pharma, Tata Motors, HCL Technologies, Larsen & Toubro and Mahindra & Mahindra were also among the gainers.

9:19 a.m.: Selling pressure visible in consumer durables, banking, FMCG, metal, power and IT stocks.

9:17 a.m.: Markets slide; Sensex falls over 100 points to 26,320 and Nifty slips 36 points to dip below 7,950.

9:05 a.m.: Pre-market session: Sensex up 117 points at 26,542 and the Nifty gains 30 points at 8,012.

9:00 a.m.: Rupee opens lower at 64.15 per dollar against Friday's close of 64.06.

8:40 a.m.: Global investors resort to pull out money from the mutual funds which focus on emerging markets. Outflows to the tune of $9.2 billion have come in last seven days.

8:35 a.m.: Below are some stocks which will be in focus today:

Tata Motors: Tata Motors will be in focus today as global wholesale sales for the month of May of Jaguar Land Rover came in at 38,879 units compared to 40,655 units during the previous month.

Infosys: Infosys will go ex-bonus and ex-dividend today. The company will issue 1 bonus share for every 1 share held and it will pay dividend of Rs 29.50 per share as well.

8:30 a.m.: Two day FOMC meet will begin on Tuesday. Janet Yellen will brief press along with decision on Wednesday. There is no expectation of an increase in fed rates and tone of the Fed's policy statement expected to sound a little more upbeat.

8:25 a.m.: Cairn India and Vedanta shares will be in focus today after Vedanta Ltd made a $2.3 billion offer on Sunday to buy out minority shareholders in cash-rich oil unit Cairn India, a deal that helps parent Vedanta Resources Plc repay hefty debts.

Shareholders in Cairn India, the country's top private sector oil producer, will get one share in Vedanta Ltd for every share held, the companies said in a joint statement on Sunday.

8:20 a.m.:The foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs 670.9 crore on Friday while the domestic institutional investors purchased shares worth Rs 705.5 crore.

8:17 a.m.: In a major global development, talks between Greece and its international creditors failed on Sunday as European leaders vented their frustration as Athens stumbled closer towards a debt default that threatens its future in the euro.

European Union officials blamed the collapse on Athens, saying it had failed to offer anything new to secure the funding it needs to repay 1.6 billion euros ($1.8 billion) to the International Monetary Fund by the end of this month.
8:15 a.m.: Asian shares fell and the euro skidded in Asian trade on Monday, after Greece's talks with lenders to avert a default ended with no agreement and Wall Street logged losses ahead of a Federal Reserve meeting.

8:05 a.m.: Nifty is likely to open on a flat note with a negative bias tracking subdued trading of Nifty on the Singapore Stock Exchange.

The Nifty which traded on the Singapore Stock Exchange also known as the SGX Nifty was down 0.12 per cent or 9 points at 7,966.
