Live: Sensex Off Day's Low, Nifty Above 8,400


Sharemasterindia.com 10.37 a.m.: Sensex trades 150 points lower at 27,716 and the Nifty is down 0.6 per cent at 8,411. Metal stocks lead selloff in market, the CNX metal index is down 2.7 per cent. Hindalco is the top loser in the metal index, down 4.69 per cent followed by Jindal Steel & Power, which is down 4.66 per cent.

10:17 a.m.: Bank Nifty falls 1 per cent; ICICI Bank, Canara Bank, Yes Bank, State Bank of India, Bank of India, Federal Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank were among the prominent laggards, down 1-2 per cent each.

10:00 a.m.: The markets extended losses in the morning trades. The Sensex fell 222 points to 27,628 and Nifty fell 70 points to 8,392.

9:55 a.m.: HPCL shares fall 7.58 per cent to hit low of Rs 883.60 despite posting strong Q1 results. Analysts say that weakness in Rupee is leading to a selloff in oil marketing companies. IOCL and BPCL also fell 3.9 and 5 per cent each.

9:48 a.m.: Tata Steel shares advanced as much as 3.4 per cent on Wednesday in an otherwise weak market after it posted better than estimated earnings for the June quarter on account of higher other income and a one-time gain.

9:40 a.m.: Sun Pharma surges 2.6 per cent to hit intraday high of Rs 864 after the company reported better than expected operating margins in Q1.

9:37 a.m: Metal stocks were the worst hit in morning trades. The BSE metal index slumped 2.6 per cent; Hindalco, NMDC, Jindal Steel, Vedanta, JSW Steel, SAIL and Hindustan Zinc were among the prominent losers from this space.

9:32 a.m.: Broader markets were also facing the heat of selling pressure. The BSE mid-cap index was down 0.5 per cent and the small-cap index fell 0.4 per cent.

9:25 a.m.: The Sensex fell over 150 points in the opening deals and Nifty slipped below its important psychological level of 8,450 tracking losses in the global markets after China devalued its currency.

Selling pressure was visible across the board barring few pharma stocks. Barring Tata Steel, other metal stocks were facing the heat of selling pressure. The BSE metal index slipped 1.5 per cent.

Realty, auto, FMCG and banking stocks were also facing heat.

NMDC, Coal India, Hindalco, Bharti Airtel, Vedanta, Tata Motors and HDFC were among the losers on the Nifty

While, Tata Steel, Sun Pharma, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, Asian Paints and Dr Reddy's Labs were among the gainers on the Nifty.

9:15 a.m.: Sensex falls over 150 points to 27,715, Nifty slips below 8,450 tracking sharp losses in global markets.

9:14 a.m.: Ashutosh Khajuria, ED of Federal Bank says that devaluation of yuan is hurting export led emerging market currencies.

9:08 a.m.: Sensex up 11 points at 27,877 and Nifty slips 16 points to 8,445 in the pre-market session.

9:07 a.m.: Market analyst Rajat Bose says that 8,450 is crucial level for the Nifty.

9:05 a.m.: On the macro economic front, the government will announce IIP data for the month of June and consumer inflation for month of July.

CPI inflation is expected to come in at 4.4 per cent and IIP is expected to come in at Rs 3.3 per cent.

9:00 a.m.: Rupee opens sharply lower at 64.55 per dollar against Tuesday's close of 64.19.
